MURRAY, 63

"I'd like to buy all the vowels."

Murray is the man. He considers his job in middle management at the Big Box Discount Store a great place to count down to retirement, and enjoys perks like controlling the lives of his employees. He can't tell whether he dislikes all people or just the ones he's met, and he takes out his frustration through intricate practical jokes that he never plays but loves to imagine, and a catalog shopping addiction. He always leaves work in time to watch Wheel of Fortune, and thinks Pat Sajak is someone he could actually like.

HARVEY, 45

"Balding guys have more fun."

Harvey is a luminary. Actually, he is a stock manager at Big Box Discount Store. He mostly counts boxes all day. But sometimes when he chews beef jerky, he gets a feeling he imagines as his soul talking to his mind. It is saying something like "awwgle." He thinks maybe he's more spiritual than his wife Shirley, who works as a cashier at the same store. When he met her there, he had beef jerky in his teeth, and she pointed it out.

SHIRLEY, 43

"I scan therefore I am."

Shirley is a superstar. She was the Employee of the Month two years ago at Big Box Discount Store, where she works as a cashier. When she won, her husband Harvey took her out for a steak dinner, which she appreciated even though he forgot she was a vegetarian. When she's ringing up boxes, she always thinks "beep" along with the scanner and sometimes says it out loud. Shirley believes most problems, including Harvey's memory, could be solved with vitamins.
